Finances
Fees
Tuition fees for the MSc OEP-Biology program are covered by the German government. However, students are required to pay about EUR 310 per semester to the university ("Sozialbeitrag"). This payment is
compulsory for enrollment and goes to support student activities and
provides free public transport within North Rhine Westfalia.
Costs of Living
The average monthly costs of living, including accommodation, food, books, and medical insurance amount to about EUR 700 - 800.
Health Insurance
German health insurance is obligatory for all students who are not
citizens of the European Union. A special student rate is currently
available for about EUR 60 a month to all students under 30 years of
age. This insurance covers the costs of most medical treatments (including dental care) in Germany.
Scholarships
The MSc program and the University of Bonn do not offer any formal
scholarships. For information on funding from German sources please
contact the DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service. There is also a scholarship database
available where you can get an overview of the various types of funding
offered by the DAAD or of the programmes offered by other funding
organisations for a study stay in Germany.
Job Opportunities
Students have a chance of getting a job as teaching / laboratory assistants / research helpers ("studentische Hilfskraft", e.g. in helping to run experiments in practical courses of the B.Sc. Biology programme).
